The City of Baltimore Department of Public Work’s mission is to support the health, environment, and local economy of the city and the region by providing its customers with safe drinking water and keeping its neighborhoods and waterways clean. On July 2nd, 2021, Dr. Jason W. Mitchell was sworn in as the new Director of Baltimore City Department of Public Works (DPW). In this role, Mitchell oversees the delivery of high-quality drinking water to 1.8 million residents and businesses in seven counties, wastewater treatment for many of the same customers and solid waste services for all of Baltimore City.

“With over 20 years of experience in the private and public sectors, Dr. Mitchell comes well-equipped to lead a very significant group of people and services. His previous position as Assistant City Administrator for the City of Oakland has prepared him to tackle the issues that arise in a large metropolitan area. Like Oakland, Baltimore City, is heavily populated and an oceanic port city. Here at MWMCA we believe his experience and passion for success will make the city better and more responsive to its citizens. Mayor Scott has made a great selection in hiring Dr.  Mitchell and we wish him a world of success as our new Director of Baltimore City, Department of Public Works”, said Wayne R. Frazier, Sr., president of Md. Washington Minority Companies Association (MWMCA).
