DMV’s Major Prime Firms Meet Virtually with Small Businesses During Meet The Primes

To be a part of this historic event during these unusual times and connect so many is a testament to the economic strength of the region and the inclusionary acceptance of the major prime firms.

As the world continues to grapple with figuring out how to conduct business during the COVID-19 pandemic, here in the DMV our major prime firms came together under one virtual roof to meet with over 466 small, minority and women-owned companies. This occurred on October 28, 2020 under the auspices of Baltimore County Public Schools and Baltimore County Government annual, “Meet The Primes” event. A total of 42 major construction companies, universities and colleges and private corporations agreed to conduct 5-minute one to one introductory phone call meetings with pre-registered MBE/WBE firms.

“What made this event so fantastic was that MWMCA as the manager of the one-to-one introduction meetings had the support of the region’s best and largest corporate managers to meet new companies to assist them in identifying small, minority and women-owned firms for existing and future projects. To be a part of this historic event during these unusual times and connect so many is a testament to the economic strength of the region and the inclusionary acceptance of the major prime firms. God bless them for being so inclusive,” said Wayne R. Frazier, Sr, president of MWMCA.

Please enjoy the following testimonials from event participants:

My big moment during the morning was watching the chat during one of the training sessions.  The small and minority businesses were posting their company names and what service they provided.  As I watched, in the matter of one minute, one of the prime contractors identified several of these businesses and arrangements were made to have further discussion.  Definitely networking in action. When hosting an in-person event you hope these connections are the result and it was exciting to watch it happen right in front of us.

Once again, MWMCA have done a tremendous job bringing together and organizing the Baltimore County Public Schools and Baltimore County Government 10th Annual Meet the Primes event. I was impressed by the thoroughness of your organization in identifying companies with utility experience for BGE’s one on one phone calls. It was time well spent, so congratulations and thank you for such a wonderful event.

MWMCA; Thank you for including The City of Baltimore’s Department of Public Works (DPW) Office of Boards and Commissions (OBC) and Office of Engineering (OEC) in your historic event!  This is the 1st time that DPW has participated in this particular event and though being virtual was a challenge; it was an awesome lesson learned and a great experience!
