The Whiting-Turner Contracting Company Hosts its DC Region “Get Down to Business” MBE Outreach

On Tuesday, January 9, 2018, The Whiting-Turner Contracting Company (W-T) hosted their first, Get Down to Business of the new year with minority and women-owned businesses to share information regarding upcoming projects. Over 100 small business representatives attended despite the region’s extreme frigid temperatures and icy road conditions. Susan Castellan, Vice President of W-T’s Greenbelt office, served as the host for this enabling event held at the Greenbelt Marriott. Also in attendance was Bernard LaHatte, Vice President of W-T, who is based in W-T’s headquarters in Baltimore. In addition, about 20 W-T project managers were on hand to discuss 22 current or future projects that can provide opportunities for firms in the DC region who hold classifications or certifications such as MBE, WBE, CBE, DBE, SDB, WOSB, VOSB, SDVOSB, and HUBZone.

Randy Charlemagne, Operations Manager for Bulldog Group, LLC (www.thebulldoggroupllc.com) a MBE heavy civil construction company, attended and said, “Whiting-Turner keeps the Get Down to Business events fresh with multiple new projects coming out every time they have this event. It appears to be endless and my company is thankful to be a part of it all.”

Beverly Thomas, CEO and Founder of Regional Contracting Services, LLC (www.regionalcontractingsvcs.com), said, “As a self-performing carpentry company, Whiting-Turner offers a wide variety of new business that covers healthcare, life and sciences, education and multi-family, which are all the areas that my company can perform. I truly appreciate them bringing so many projects under one roof.”

Paula Tilghman, President and Founder of Absolute Solutions & Associates, LLC (www.absolute-saa.com), attended with her partner Kevin Lisenby and they were once again delighted by the many different and new projects on display. Paula said, “As a small business, we would not be able to see and visit with so many projects and project managers at one time. I look forward to attending these events because we get access to the project managers and other staff who usually work at various sites on projects. No other prime does this like Whiting-Turner.”

Finally, Wayne R. Frazier, Sr., President of MWMCA, had this to say, “The Whiting-Turner Contracting Company is one of the most inclusive major construction management and general contractors in America. The Get Down to Business series of outreaches are so popular now that our members and subscribers come to anticipate them. Often, they bring their estimators, project managers, as well as business development pros to cover the events because the content is generally more than one person can cover. We are proud that W-T stresses MBE inclusion, even on projects where the owners may not require it.”
