Project Description:
Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission (WSSC) owns and maintains the 102-inch Bladensburg trunk sewer constructed in 1977. The reinforced concrete gravity sewer conveys wastewater from junction chamber 09012071J near WSSC's Hyattsville Pump Station approximately 8,800 feet downstream to junction chamber 09012013J near WSSC's Anacostia Pump Station. In 2012 and 2014, approximately 2, 100 linear feet of the 102-inch pipe and five associated structures were investigated through the completion of a multi-sensor investigation, H2S Analysis Study, and the collection of concrete core samples. Results of the investigation indicate that the 102-inch pipe has a high likelihood and consequence of failure, is nearing the end of its useful life and needs to be rehabilitated. Pipeline segments and structures to be rehabilitated as part of this project are listed in Table 1 and Table 2. After review of alternative approaches, WSSC concluded that rehabilitation of the trunk sewer is the most practical alternative.
